Evaluation

In this unit, i had to be the VT operator for a show that we would have to perform live. the tasks that i had to do was to be make sure that all of the pre recorded videos would be played at the right time and to make sure that they are in order. there was seven videos that i had to play on time which was the inrto, the rundown of the show, all three music vidoes, the news and the cha cha slide video. the intro had to played at the beginning of the show so i had to make sure to play it at the right time when everyone is ready, then shortly after was the rundown of the show at 00:48 which had small chips of other videos that will be played during the show. after the rundown i had to get ready to play the first music video and i had 16 seconds to get it ready befor i would play it at 01:51. the interview was next on the list of videos that i had to play, i had to play the video straight after the interview with Guneet at 07:28. i then played the second music video at 10:30, then i had to play the third music video at 21.10. after was the news that i played at 27:03 that was followed by the final video which was the cha cha slide that was played at 28:21. i had to make sure that all of the videos was played in the right order but also know the duration of each video so i could let the presenters know when they would have to be ready to do their part. The final production went very well and i hought that we all worked really well as a team because we all had to rely on eachother to move on to the next task but also that we helped eachother when we needed help. on the live day, there were good comunication between the director and other crew members such as the camera operators and the vision mixer. i also had to make communication with the director because i had to tell him when each video would finish so that he could tell the other casts and crew members to get ready and in poition. this is important becasue the timing of the show would be good but also that there would not be any problems. I think that the show in a whole was very good and to me, it was better than expected because there was work that was not finished and also some of the team members was confused on what to do.  without the whole team's cooperation, the show would not be as good as it was and we managed to sold the problems that we had encountered. everyone knew what they had to do and where they had to be and also clear on what will happen next, this was the reason why the show turned out to be good.
A VT operator would is a person that is in control of all the video tapes that has been recorded before and is resposible to play the videos in the right order and the right time. the VT operator would have to know set up and prepare the equpitments that he would have to use but also know clearly what is happening in the show so that he would know when to play each video. the skills that a vt operator need is a good communication skill and also organisation skill to have all the videos in order and in the right place. I have met these expectations because i had good comunication skills as i had to communicate to the director and also the vision mixer to know when i should play the next video and also when the video will finish. another strength would be that i have good organisation skills as i had all the videos in order from which video would have to be played the first to the last so that i would be clear on what to do. the third strength that i had was timing which is because i had to play each video at the right time which was when the presenter says so, i had to pay attention carefully to see when i had to put on each video. the areas that i could have improved on was also a little bit of timing because at some time, i had played a few videos either too early or too late. also, i thought that i could of been more ready for the show by going over what i had to exactly do, one example would be that i could time how long everything is but also going through everything that will be happening in the show. another weakness would also be problem solving because there was some minor problems such as before every video, there was static a second after the logo, but i was not able to fix it. a difficulty that i had during the start show from the beginning to 05:45 i had to play three video to play and i only had a few seconds between me to get the next video ready to play. to solve this problem, i had to find out how long each of my video was but also how long i had between me to change the video, i found out that there was an 8 second long opening sequence after the intro to get the rundown ready to play and aproximatly 15 seconds after the rundown to get the first music ready to play. i also kelp timing myself to see if i was doing it on time.
i have gined a variety of skills from the show, the skills that i have gained and improved are:
  • communication because went to the director and other members to help when there are problems and also if i was not clear of what was happening. also i had to communicate with the director mostly during the show to let him know how long each video is and when it would finish so that he could get everyone in position.
  • timing because i had to get timings of everything that was happening such as the opening sequence so that i would know how long i have to get the next video ready but also the timeing in my videos so it would know how long they each are.
  • confidence because I have participated in something that I would not usually do and because it has been a success I feel proud and also know that I could do something if I set my mind to it.
  • i now know what it is like to work in a live show and also know the atmosphere to it. this gave me the skill to work under pressure to get the work doing in a set date and but also I know what being a VT operator is like and what they do.
a practical reason would be that without multi camera, the should would be lifeless, uninteresting and dull. the extra cameras makes the show more lifely and also because it would be better for the audience to watch without yawning. an example on the practical reason is from 05:46 to 06:10 because it changes from a long shot of both the presenters and the guest then to the guest to introduce her then to the presenters when they ask a question then back to the guest. this is done because we could get a mid show of both the presenters and also the guest to see their facial expressions and also their body expressions. if there was only one camera used for this, it would not be as good because we would only get either a mid shot of the presenters or the guest or a long shot of both of them and it would stay like that. that would not be too entertaining to watch because there would not be any changes but also there would not be any close ups which is important becausae the audience would not get to see the facial expression of both the presenters and the guest.

this is a jonathan ross interview with vin diesel and this is a professional show. an example of practical in this video is from 04:50 to 05:05 which cuts from a angles shot of both the presenter and the guest then to the guest when he is talking then to the presenter when he is talking then to another angled show of both of them. multi camera on her is used to capture every action on the show and also to guide the audience by the facial expressions of the presenter. another example would be 11:15 to 11:50 where vin diesel gets up to record a message, that was unexpected and with only one camera, that would not be caught in a shot but becasue there are many other cameras, there are shots from different angles of it.

an aesthetic reason would be at 09:50 on the m&m challenge. i thought that this was a good shot because everything was in this shot such as the presenter, a good amount of background, the guests and the m&m. the shot makes the audience enjoy the action but also it makes them feel more pulled in to what is happening and also enjoy the atmosphear.
